Stay Prepared for Disasters Using Disaster Recovery Services

Comments Off

Importance of disaster recovery

Disasters can strike a business at anytime. It is not possible to predict the various disasters that could hit a business, be it natural ones like floods, fires and earthquakes or those arising out of human error. In situations like this, businesses could suffer huge losses, especially in terms of loss of business data. To stay prepared, businesses should consider disaster recovery services – these can help them get back on their feet quickly.

Reports by the US National Fire Protection Agency states that around 43% of organizations that suffer a fire disaster are unable to get back into business after such an episode. A research conducted by Gartner reveals that approximately 40% of small and medium scale businesses which have been unsuccessful in recovering business data within 24 hours of a disaster are unable to remain in business for too long.

This is why most businesses are presently being encouraged to have a disaster recovery plan in place. Since different businesses have their own unique set of requirements in relation to disaster management and data recovery, they approach the process in different ways.

Various options for disaster recovery planning

One of the main aspects that companies should focus on is having a disaster management plan in place. A disaster recovery plan is drawn up by the service providers based on the business establishments’ requirements. Despite being an up-coming field, there are disaster recovery services aimed at different kinds of business establishments.

There are disaster recovery service providers who go to business establishments and conduct a thorough risk assessment.

These service providers assess and communicate the possible threats to a business. If asked for, they can also generate viable plans for the concerned business. In addition to this, there are various software that an organization can employ to be prepared in the event of a disaster. This type of software offers backup of vital business data.

There are disaster recovery units which are mobile. They arrive at the business establishment and help bring it back to functioning mode within a couple of hours. This of course depends on factors such as the severity of the damage caused, the establishment’s location and distance from the service provider.

Another means of ensuring disaster recovery is to have data stored off site. This would mean that a company can opt to have their information stored elsewhere, at a backup site. There are businesses which store critical business data at multiple off-site locations. When hiring the services of an off site disaster recovery company, it is imperative that the security and safety standards of the service provider are optimal.

Disaster recovery services can be considered multifaceted and in the current scenario where businesses are availing more of these services, many more recovery services are cropping up. Whether a business is big or small, disaster recovery is just a plan away. So, give this due thought and make your business ‘disaster-proof’.

Mega Disasters: How GPS Tracking Will Save Lives

Comments Off

Disasters are happening all the time from man made to nature driven cataclysmic events. Centuries ago the planet had primitive life forms and did not understand what was happening to their world. But today we live in a advanced technological society where it not likely our entire race will become extinct like in the dinosaur period. Man will survive, but how many of us will live? The question remains unanswered.

If you’ve ever watched the history channel they have a program called MEGA Disasters. It’s presents many different shows on events that will lead to massive loss of life from natural or man made disasters. One or more of these MEGA disasters is going to occur sooner than later.

Here is a brief description on what the show is about.

Massive natural disasters have shaped the planet on which we live for millions of years, and the only thing we know for sure is that the future holds more. Earthquakes have triggered massive tsunamis and released methane gas that killed most of the life in the ocean. Asteroids have laid waste to nearly all the life on earth. Volcanoes have blocked the sun’s rays for months.

As the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina and the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami have dramatically demonstrated, we are all vulnerable to unexpected disasters, both natural and man-made. Combining science and history, MEGA DISASTERS visits the sites of previous disasters, then recreates them in modern times and locations, using state-of-the-art computer animation.

Whether it’s the city of Memphis crashing into the Mississippi River during an earthquake or a mile-wide asteroid destroying Los Angeles, each week is a hair-raising look at just how vulnerable our complex society really is to the power of Mother Nature.

What we need to do to save lives now and in the future?

Ordia Solutions is the pioneer and leading provider of mobile command & control systems for public safety agencies. They have devised the Mobile Tactical Collaboration System (MTCS) is a next-generation web-based wireless-enabled software application that allows public safety officers to communicate and collaborate visually in real-time using tactical graphics, digital maps, and shared workspaces to enable highly effective command & control without ever having to setup a physical command post. This system is the only one of it’s kind in the world and is in many government trials from SWAT teams to FBI, and is being rolled out into many search and rescue operation command centers.

They recently expanded the product portfolio to include an integrated GPS tracking solution, which provides real-time situational unit locations for operational commanders and their tactical operators in the field.

This GPS Tracking Device was researched for use in the Mobile Tactical Collaboration System (MTCS) by GLC Enterprises, Inc. and is also known as the WorldTracker GPRS. It is an advanced mini tracking devices that allows rescue person to be viewed in near real time allowing officials to effectively coordinate rescue missions when MEGA Disasters stick which will happen for sure.

Local, state, and federal law enforcement officers, as well as other first responders, are able to share data, maps, and images with each other in real time, allowing tactical decisions to be made and implemented quickly and effectively.

The software is in place in the command center, in vehicle-mounted laptops, and in ultra mobile handheld computers.

Because a picture is worth a thousand words, this technology innovation will be as revolutionary for public safety communication as the introduction of the television set was for mass media communication.

How many of use are saved will depend on highly coordinated search and rescue mission which will rely on the Mobile Tactical Collaboration System (MTCS) with integrated GPS Tracking.

Learn to Survive in the Disasters

Mount Merapi volcanic had erupted for a third time, with local people reportedly saying this was louder and stronger than the previous eruption last Tuesday. Indonesia suffered three different kinds of natural disaster these days. By now at least 400 persons were killed in these disasters.

Millions of people were killed in the natural other disasters recent years. Earthquake destroyed thousands of houses. Tsunami killed thousands of people. Volcanic tsunami made thousands of people lost their beloved ones. It is not the only one bad news to us. These years we heard countless natural disasters happened. We even become used to the natural disasters. It is a really big tragedy to become used to the death and disaster.

The human being can do a great to change the living environment. We could build the skyscrapers. We could make the submarine. We could make the airplane. We could build the skyscraper. We even can make everything which you could imagine. And we even could explore the outer space. But we could do nothing when facing such natural disasters.

Recent years, there are earthquake, flood, and other disasters occurred all over the world. We could do nothing to save such people in disasters except help the survival ones to rebuild their houses. We always say that the doomsday is coming with humor when talking about the frequently natural disasters. Not because we do not afraid about the end of the world but we could do nothing since we are only human being. We always asked others about this question: “Is 2012 doomsday coming?”

Is the doomsday coming? No one would answer this question completely. But no one would say no immediately since there are countless tragedies all over the world recent years. What shall we do if the doomsday is coming? Stop working? Or continue to live as normal? How could we survive in the disasters?

I am the one who prefer to believe that the doomsday is coming. Maybe 2012 is not the end of the world. But in my opinion, the world is not as safe as before. There are full of tragedies made by human being or nature. The end of the world is coming sooner or later. I do not want to wait to death. So I prefer to work harder. I prefer to enjoy the life. At the same time, I try to cherish time and life better. And I try to protect myself and my family.

But how I could to protect myself and keep healthy? I tried to get rid of the bad habits. Do the exercises with my family every morning. Go to sleep earlier and wake up earlier. I try to eat more healthy food. I even tried to quit smoking. Since I am a heavy smoker and I try to smoking in vain. So I accept my friend’s suggestion to buy some electronic devices for myself on http://www.dinodirect.com/electronic-cigarette-accessories/.

I even persuade my family and friends to learn some survival skills with me. I think it is quite useful when meeting such terrible disasters like what happened in Indonesia. I am not a pessimistic person. On the contrary, I am the optimistic one. I do not want to be the one who is regret about his life when dying. We could do nothing when meeting the terrible tragedies, but we must learn something from the tragedies.

Are you still wasting the time now? Do you feel tired of life? If so, please have a look at the victims in Indonesia or somewhere are suffering the tragedy. You may change your opinion later. The life will be much better than you thought before. Tragedy will not bring us to death, only the helplessness can do that.

Natural or Man Made Disasters Emergency Preparedness For Home

Comments Off

In this day and age with all the weather disasters and other man made disasters that seem to occur quite regularly, we must be prepared at home for any type of emergency. No matter where you live geographically, there is always the potential for any type of disaster, whether it man made or natural. Man made disasters can now include wildfires set by arsonists, or terrorist attacks, chemical spills, toxic chemical releases, and so on. Weather and other natural disasters can include earthquakes, flooding, wildfires set by lighting or other natural event, hurricanes, tornados, dust storms and the like.

The first step you want to take in your emergency preparations is to purchase a reliable, dependable emergency kit for yourself and your loved ones. In case we suffer a major catastrophic event, like Hurricane Katrina, or the Jplin Tornado, or the Earthquake in Japan, chances are you and your family and neighbors will be on your own for a while. For how long you will be left to fend for yourself depends on your location as well as the size and magnitutde of the disaster, hence we cannot place all our hopes in them for coming to our rescue right away. It may be hours, and in some cases maybe even a day or more before emergency personnel may be able to come to our aid. Also another good point to remember that in most such disasters, banks and utilities will be off, clean drinking water or tap water may be contaminated or off altogether, gas stations closed, phones may be down, including cell phones, no internet and such, so we must take that into account as well.

]]>

It is very important to remember to be self-reliant in case of such emergencies by storing e egency kits in the home, car, office, and or school since you never know when or where a disaster will strike, although in some cases, at least we will have fair warning, but don’t always count on that, be prepared!

For the kit, of course you should have a good supply of new batteries, solar powered chargers and equipment if possible, battery or solar radio(s), flashlight(s), blankets, extra water, canned food, an emergency medical kit, a crowbar and/or hammer in case you need to help someone who is trapped beneath rubble. Another good thing to have on hand is several approved faacial masks in case of biological or chemical spills, whether man made or terrorist, and a pandemic like the swine or bird flu, if it ever materializes into that.

Other things which need to be in your emergency kits aren’t that which is what you have, but what steps you need to take in case of a alert or warning. Are you aware of your local evacuations routes, local supply stores to stock up on items in case of a hurricane or other disaster that can be prepared for, like the local hardware and grocery stores. There are other steps to take, like how to communicate with loved ones, where to meet, leave messages, or how to contact each other in the event of a disaster. Remember, once a disaster strikes, it will be too late if you don’t have several emergency plans for your family in place, as chaos is likely to ensue. At least if you have several plans and options in place that everyone is aware of, that is one less thing that you will have to worry about.

Elementals (Nature Spirits) Why They Are So Important to You, the Planet and in Mitigating Disasters & Potential Cataclysms

Comments Off

Many people have some awareness of elementals/nature spirits even though they may not really believe in them. However, they are VERY real and without them our planet would not exist and we would not be here! Right now, the elementals are extremely overburdened and and this is resulting in the large numbers of natural disasters we are now experiencing. They need our help!

There are many aspects of what the nature spirits do that most people are not aware of. What is presented below is a very general overview of the different types of nature spirits, but just like humans, they come in a large variety of shapes, sizes, personalities and temperaments – including fairies, elves, dwarfs, sprites, brownies, pixies, etc. Elementals are also great mimicers of humans and our myriad range of emotions. They easily take on the vibrations of their surroundings and the energy of humans. Because of all this, everyone’s experiences with the nature spirits will be different.

Everything in the universe vibrates at a certain frequency – including material matter, light rays, radio waves and even thoughts and emotions. As humans we only see a very limited band of frequencies that make up our color spectrum, whereas there are infinite vibrational frequencies outside of what we perceive. The elementals are simply vibrating at a higher frequency than we can usually perceive. Some humans though have developed their sight so they can easily see them. Many children are also aware of them since they have recently come from the heaven world and still retain their inner sight for awhile.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (creator of Sherlock Holmes), Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison are amongst though who came to believe in the existence of nature spirits. In fact, Tesla and Edison both were trying to develop a device to photograph them.

There are four types of elementals. They tend the forces of nature and sustain the four elements of earth (gnomes), air (sylphs), salamanders (fire) and undines (water).

The nature spirits called gnomes are the ones who tend and care for the earth at the physical level. There are billions of gnomes and without them, the planet would not be habitable by humans. Amongst the things that gnomes are responsible for are:

- enriching the soil and the formation of all the minerals and elements found in the earth
- processing the waste and by-products of everyday existence and purging the earth of dangerous pollutants and poisons that are harmful to us
- the protection of and maintaining the form of every plant, flower and growing thing produced in the earth

On the spiritual level, the gnomes have equally important and even heavier chores. They must clean up the energetic release that is imprinted on the earth due to mankind’s discord and negativity. This includes the imprint from wars, murders, rapes, abuse, torture, etc., as well as from the negative emotions of anger, hatred, discord, and the like. All of these combine to form an enormous amount of negatively charged energy that weighs on the earth body and the nature spirits.

Gnomes vary in appearance as reported by those who have developed their inner vision. Some are short and impish, some appear as very small elves to 3 foot high dwarves and even more giant sized gnomes.

Also associated with the earth element are Fairies, Pixies, Elves, Wood Nymphs and Brownies.

As with the gnomes, we could not survive without the aid of the air elementals – the sylphs. They are responsible for:

- tending to the air element, atmospheric conditions and directing air flows
- aerating every cell with prana – the sacred breath of Spirit which nourishes all things
- purifying the atmosphere of pollutants such as car exhaust and toxic fumes released from factories

The air element also corresponds to the mental plane – or mind. The sylphs also purify the mental level from negative energies and pollutants such as anger, resentment, greed, bigotry and other poisons.

Sylphs usually have thin ethereal bodies that can transform into many shapes as they soar through the air. Their passage are often defined by the formation of clouds. They are able to travel very quickly and over great distances.

These nature spirits – the salamanders – work with the fire element and their jobs are crucial to our existence:

- infusing the molecules of matter and all creation with the energies of the Spirit necessary to sustain life on earth – without the spark of life the salamanders sustain, matter would decay, corrode and disintegrate
- controlling the spiritual-material oscillation of light within the nucleus of every atom
- agents for transferring the fires of the subtle world for mankind’s daily use – electricity, firelight, etc.

The salamanders are also responsible for absorbing and transmuting huge masses of negativity over the large cities on earth. Without them, crime and darkness would be much more rampant.

These nature spirits are the biggest, most powerful of the elementals. They are tall, majestic beings appearing as pulsating rainbow fire.

The undines are the nature spirits whose domain is the water element and they govern water and its energies wherever they are – large or small sources. The critical jobs they are responsible for are:

- purification of water everywhere – including in our own bodies
- toiling ceaselessly to cleanse the water of earth poisoned by toxins, sewage, industrial waste, oil spills, chemical and other substances
- control of the tides, oxygenation and precipitation
- control of all of the fish and mineral life in the seas and in the water of the earth

The undines also cleanse the aspect of mankind’s life which relates to the water element – their emotions. They carry the weight of our emotional pollution – feelings of anger, fear, anxiety, etc.

These elementals are beautiful, mermaidlike beings. They are swift and subtle in their movements and can change form quickly.

The miracle of life is the miracle of the elementals

As can be seen, we are totally dependent on the selfless service of the nature spirits, who are mostly unrecognized by the majority of mankind. And yet they give us the miracle of life and without them, life on earth would not be possible.

Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, severe storms, floods, tornados, hurricanes – we are experiencing more and more natural disasters at much greater intensities. A large part of the reason this is happening is because the elementals/nature spirits are heavily overburdened! Most people are totally unaware of elementals, what they do and the fact that without them, the earth would be uninhabitable and we would not exist here. They have worked heroically day after day for centuries to clean up the earth, the air and the water on our planet.

There has been much conjecture about 2012 – especially the date of December 21, 2012 and what it signifies. Some believe it means the end of the world – and others believe it is simply the end of the world as . Many believe we are now in transition to a potentially higher level of consciousness, which could hopefully bring in a new Golden Age. This transformation process not only involves a cleansing within ourselves of old negative energies, limiting beliefs and blocks, but also a cleansing of Mother Earth of untransmuted negative energy that has impacted the planet for thousands of years through wars, acts of violence, human discord, etc.

All energy moves in rhythmic flow. These energy patterns – whether positive or negative – must sooner or later recycle through the planet. In the process, these energies are assimilated and outplayed by the forces of nature. Elementals are great mimicers of humans and our myriad range of emotions. They easily take on the vibrations of their surroundings and the energy of humans. Their mimicry of our discord can cause severe storms, raging floodwaters, violent earth movement and searing heat.

Mankind is largely responsible for what is happening on earth now due to the impact of wars, violence, discord, negative emotions (anger, hatred, and the like), abuse of the environment through deforestation, the release of toxic chemicals and other pollutants. All of this severely affects the earth and the nature spirits responsible for helping to clean things up – both physically and energetically.

We are also seeing the effects of karma being outpictured in the unusual and calamitous manifestations of nature. Karma is the law of cause and effect which operates through all our lives. It states that we are responsible for our thoughts and actions and the affect that has on others as well as nature. According to this Law, The energy of those thoughts and actions MUST be returned to us as like energy (what goes around, comes around). The elementals also bear the weight of that karma.

Everything vibrates at different frequencies – this includes physical things as well as light, sound, even thoughts and emotions. Lower level vibrations include those of anger, fear, distrust, doubt, etc. These lower density energies impact not only our physical beings, but seriously impact the earth. To move to a higher level of consciousness, these old energies that no longer serve us at the highest level, are being brought up to the surface in order for us to deal with them – or not. It’s kind of akin to an erupting volcano! That is part of the reason why so many people now are feeling like they are in a crisis state.

Mother Earth is also in a crisis state as witnessed by manmade disasters such as the massive oil spill in the Gulf and the large number of natural disasters taking place, such as the Japanese earthquake/tsunami – some of which are more intense than they have ever been before. These are also a result of the elementals and the earth throwing off negative energies and karma that cannot be resolved in other, more peaceful ways. For example, when sylphs take on too much negative energy, they will rid themselves of it by starting a whirling action in the air – which can sometimes result in enormous hurricanes.

The elementals have become supersaturated with the taking on of negative energies, along with the burden of cleaning up toxins and pollutants. They carry a great weight of oppression and depression, despair and discouragement. Just as when we get overworked, the nature spirits too can become tired and listless. When the burden becomes too great, they are forced to throw off the weight. This can result in floods, hurricanes, tornados, volcanoes, and unfortunately at times, large scale cataclysm!

Everything is energetically connected to each other – humans, nature and elementals. We cannot engage in negativity without affecting the whole. Whether we are engaging in gossip, criticism or blowing our tops, the result is that energy then contributes to the planetary mass of negative elements, weighing down the planet and the nature spirits. Also, the more negative energy we put out, the more energy of like kind is attracted to us through the return of karma. Once this return of energy becomes physical, there is little we can do about it.

Due to the severity of untransmuted negative energy and the imbalance in our ecosystem, it is a daunting task to clean things up, However, if we all do our part to care for our planet, the elementals and Mother Nature, we can help restore balance, mitigate natural disasters and avoid calamities.

On the physical level, there needs to be a concerted effort by both individuals and nations to clean existing pollution and to take steps to not create more. Better choices need to be made to restore Mother Earth to health and harmony. This can involve the choice to use “green”/organic products, recycle, reduce emissions, minimize consumption of nature resources, etc.

KEEP YOUR HARMONY! That is probably the one single most important thing we can do emotionally for the elementals. When we are in harmony, they are in harmony. Of course, it’s probably impossible for most people to maintain their harmony all the time, but if we can all try to do that as much as possible, we will eliminate much of the negative emotional energies that burden the nature spirits and contribute to natural disasters.

There are a number of spiritual techniques available – some that specifically target each elemental group – and can be a HUGE assistance to them. They include prayer, decrees, mantras, meditations and use of the violet flame – which can even transmute karma! In the pocket book, “Is Mother Nature Mad? – How to Work with Nature Spirits to Mitigate Natural Disasters”, it explains how to work with the elementals and gives numerous examples of these techniques as well as specific prayers and decrees we can give to assist the nature spirits. I HIGHLY recommend this book and it can be obtained on Amazon new for under .00 and used for under .00. A very small price to pay to help the elementals and our planet!

One of the keys to working with the elementals is to give them the love of your heart. They respond to love and that, along with the energy of joy is very uplifting to them. Regularly giving to the nature spirits also builds trust.

To do this meditation, center in your heart and remember a time when you felt very loving and joyous. Strongly feel the energy of love and joy in your heart. Then visualize yourself in the blazing white fire core of Mother Earth. Send the energy of love and joy out to all the elementals and through the earth. See it radiating out in all directions as dazzling rays of white, pink and gold. Keep this up for a minute or more and do it daily whenever you have a little spare time.

You will be amazed at the difference this simple meditation can make to you personally too! What you send out vibrationally will be returned to you multiplied. The elementals will be grateful and will in return assist you. It also helps connect you with your Higher Self.

Another very important thing we can each personally do is work on reuniting with our Higher Self. This Self is our True Self and has not only the power to change and improve our own lives dramatically, but can contribute in much greater ways to helping the elementals.

Reconnecting with your Higher Self will also help you navigate the 2012 transition in a much more harmonious way as that Self will guide you each and every step of the way! By establishing a strong connection with your True Self and working with the elementals, it can also keep you out of harm’s way.

There is much that can be done before or once a natural disaster has occurred to help mitigate its impact. In the book, “Is Mother Nature Mad?”, it gives specific, practical strategies for dealing with fires, hurricanes, drought, floods and earthquakes.

Each and every one of us has elementals who depend on us! Considering the cataclysmic events that have already taken place recently, it is definitely in our best interest to do all we can to help the nature spirits. They have helped us for so long and now we can repay that assistance. So will you commit to helping the elementals to heal and renew our planet? The 2012 transition does not have to be cataclysmic if we will all do our part!

Kids and Disasters – Earthquakes

Comments Off

Earthquakes can be a terrifying experience for anyone who has experienced them, especially children who may not understand what is going on. The following is an explanation of earthquakes and the safety steps that should be taken in the event of this type of natural disaster.

Earthquakes are caused by plates underneath the surface of the earth shifting their position. In certain areas, two of these plates are shifting at the same time, creating friction and leading to an eventual break. An earthquake is the vibration that is felt as a result of this break.

One area in the United States that experiences earthquakes is the San Andreas Fault in California. It runs from Northern California to the Gulf of California and minor movement is detected here thousands of times annually, although many of these are not felt by the residents in the nearby areas.

The largest earthquake in United States history occurred in 1906 because of movement at this fault line, affecting San Francisco and killing approximately 3,000 people. This earthquake caused around 0 million in damage.

Since earthquakes happen quite suddenly, you should make sure that your children know what to do in case they are ever caught in one. You can teach them the “drop, cover, and hold on” safety method. If they are inside during an earthquake, they should keep calm and climb under a heavy object such as a desk or table. They should hold onto the object until the shaking has passed. The children should avoid windows and any objects that could fall on them, such as a cabinet or locker. If the children are outdoors, they should move away from street lights and utility poles as well as buildings.

If they are caught in a public place, the children should again climb under something heavy. You should explain to them not to try to exit the building as many people will be attempting to leave at the same time. They should also not enter an elevator during an earthquake or right after, as the aftershocks can cause damage as well.

If you and your family are driving when a tremor strikes, you should try to pull over into an area that does not have wires or poles above your vehicle. Remain calm and wait the tremor out before proceeding on your way. If you are in a mountainous area, you may also need to avoid falling rocks and other debris that has been loosened by the quake.

Immediately after an earthquake, there are aftershocks, as was mentioned earlier. These are minor earthquakes follow a major one in the same general location. Your children should remain undercover until they are sure that the aftershocks are finished as well.

After the earthquake, there are still a variety of safety measures that your children need to be aware of. If they are at home and hear a hissing noise or smell fumes, they should leave the house immediately and call for help. This noise and smell could be a broken gas line that could explode or lead to a serious fire. If they are going outside, they should be sure to wear shoes as there is probably broken glass and other foreign debris lying in the streets.

Earthquakes are one of the most deadly natural occurrences due to the fact that there is almost no advanced warning when they occur. By teaching your children the “drop, cover, and hold on” safety method, they will be able to take care of themselves in case they are caught in an earthquake.

An earthquake in the Pacific Ocean has caused a small Tsunami. The quake, measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale, struck near Vanuatu early on Sunday, according to the US Geological survery. No damage has been reported there, but the tremors come on the sixth anniversary of the Indian Ocean Tsunami which killed 230000 people. Indonesia was one of the worst affected countries, but there are concerns it is still not fully prepared to cope. Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen reports from Mount Bromo in East Java.

Proper Planning and Home Insurance – The Best Way to Be Ready For Natural Disasters and Calamities

Comments Off

Natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes can strike anywhere and anytime, most especially in disaster prone areas. The effects of these calamities may be colossal – destroying everything in its path. Being caught in a raging natural disaster may leave you homeless and penniless – but that does not need to be the case. You can protect your property, your house and most specially the people living inside it by doing some extra planning ahead of time, and getting the right home insurance and home insurance riders. So where exactly do you start?

Plan for Disaster
The safety of everyone inside the house should always be the first consideration in times of disaster. Remember fire drills at school? They were meant to prepare you with what to do in case a fire breaks out. Do the same thing at home. Create an escape plan and discuss this with everybody in the household in order to make sure that everybody knows where to go and what to do when an emergency strikes.

Keep important phone numbers within easy access, preferably somewhere where it can easily be seen such as near the telephone or on the refrigerator door.

Keep an inventory of valuable and expensive things. You can choose to keep hard – to – replace items and other valuables such as birth certificates, home inventories and insurance policies inside safety deposit boxes at home or in banks. This way, they are kept safe in the event that your home suffers from extreme damage. Another way to help minimize and circumvent damages caused by natural disasters by having your home properly landscaped. Property elevation may help protect you from flood damage, while strategic fuel breaks such as driveways, sand and gravel may help slow down the path of wildfires to your home.

Choose the Right Policy
Practically, the main reason for buying home insurance is in order for you to insure your home and protect your property.

You may have already purchased it, but it is best to review it to make sure that you know what is being covered and what is not.

If you live in a disaster prone area, having a basic home insurance policy is usually never enough. Most standard home insurance policies, surprisingly, do not cover damages caused by natural disasters. This is why it is important to know what your home insurance policy covers, so you will be well informed about what else you need.

Additional Coverage
You can purchase additional Earthquake or Flood Damage Coverage from your home insurance provider, which will cover damages caused by natural disasters to your property. Some valuable items inside your house may not be covered under a standard home insurance policy, and you can also choose to have these certain items covered by purchasing an extension to your policy. This extension is called a rider, which covers and protects additional items not included in your standard home insurance policy.

Lastly, you also have to consider the devastating effects of a disaster. A flash flood or a hurricane may totally destroy your home, leaving you with nowhere to live. While your home rebuilding and repair needs and expenses may already be taken care of by your additional disaster coverage, your house may be unlivable for a certain period of time, which means that you need to look for some other place to stay in. Moreover, if the disaster has eradicated everything inside your house, you will also have to worry about other things such as clothes, furniture and appliances.

This scenario is usually overlooked, and unfortunately, expenses for these things are not not covered under your home insurance policy. Purchasing an additional living expense An additional living expense coverage takes care of living expenses beyond what you normally spend for during the time when your house is being completely rebuilt. This includes payments for house, furniture and electronics rental.

These riders and additional coverage for your home insurance can vary from one insurance provider to the other, and is also customizable according to your needs and wants. This it is important to plan and prevent, and then maintain good communication with your home insurance agent or provider. Asking your home insurance provider about this will provide you more information in order for you to make the right choice.

Make Way for Best technology to deal With Earthquake and Natural Disasters

Comments Off

go clockwork, the digital era.

It took almost nine hours of delay from 5 pm dusk on the day’s quake before international rescue missions managed to reach Haiti a day after at about noon.

There is no denying the stretch and eternity of days and months and years which it would take to rebuild the city Port-Au-Prince. Lack of preparation hampered by unreliable warning systems would be blamed. Techies should share the blame. While they are offering platform on various networking sites like facebook and twitter, the world will be yearning for a more fundamental approach: more reliable early warning systems, ones used currently fall short horribly sad. How they failed, stories are certainly never going to be sufficient in trading the accusing finger.

A proposition to these fellow techies would be: include seismological sensing feasible into executable software programs. These are possible in very many ways including these, but let us first proceed.

Did technology actually fail or it is the human being’s proclivity of shifting blame?

When the net is cast wide and fishes fail to swim up-stream, technology’s hammer and tong will blame virtually all the surrogates to the profession. From the regulators, to the architecture, designer, and more or less of other abstract personages forming links in the city’s construction system. How they satiate appetite by wanting a quick buck has now paid in a caustic boomerang.

Haiti’ telecommunication infrastructure is among the least developed in Latin America and the Caribbean countries but boasts of over 1 million internet users. Its mobile-cellular telephone service was slightly expanding rapidly in part due to the introduction of low cost GSM phone. Clear statistics are yet to come out after the devastation. By then, domestically, majority relied on Coaxial cable and microwave radio relay trunk service. This was greatly completed by internet enabled phones to communicate. Banks had closed due to sporadic looting and security lapses to conduct normal business since much of their services rely heavily on Local Area Networks that were disrupted.

When services are thus disrupted, it is neither a far wide imagination. At times the weather man fails forecasting properly. When Calamities befall us, preparedness and response will matter. Even closer home, the occasional El-nino rains bring devastating floods. They summon us to reassess our warning systems. For instance, global warming will in the next decade cause pronounced climatic effects; erratic rains that often pour to proportions of hedonistic hurricanes, sometimes inviting drought and famine. Business shylocks are likely to exploit coming opportunities when world food prices increased due to demand. Floods and landslides will not be limited to shanty wallops, but equally more to high-rise buildings and marshy regions.

What does technology offer in this front? The USA and China are adopting new technology after their worst experience with disasters: Katrina and Tsunami respectively. In the USA, a project led by a research scientist, Will Laska known as Portable Lightweight Ubiquities Gasket (PLUG) was developed to counteract effects of broken levees. The best they seem to have learnt was to incorporate sophisticated research, using the academia, the US Army Corps, and IT engineers. The systems built combined light weight PLUGs that can be flown by helicopters and easily be deployed along banks. Monitoring would then be conducted from an observation intensive center and any further damage would promptly be relayed to a standby team to deploy some more. The case of Tsunami in ASEAN region has, but got little development. The systems in use are still in place, more of them relying on a commissioned project of the United Nations comprising 26 nations. It involves Earthquake Warning Systems (EWS). These incorporate monitoring of seismological and tidal stations linked to specially programmed computers, accelerometers, and communication that pick delicate tremors from the epicenters. But they proved false and erratic. In Haiti, technological infrastructure penetration challenge is still high but this is no alibi for systems failure. A clearer re-look into the whole EWS beggars query into their reliability, although scientist have yet to have us believe in their effectiveness.

There basically, are three types of waves. The Primary (P) waves, Secondary(S) waves, and other interspersing but different kind of waves. P waves are longitudinal and travel 1.7 times faster than S waves. Scientists calculate the distance between any point on the surface of the earth and the earthquake’s focus by using the ratio of the speeds of the two waves at the breaking point where the vibration originated. By knowing the time when the vibration arrived at the focus point. They discern this through the seismograph (a graduated graph used in measuring seismological activities).

This one involves developing and improving of various physical models and computational approaches for modeling earthquake source processes. Remote sensors relay impulses of seismic waves to virtual graphs for further in depth analysis and calculations. More western countries are offering majors in seismological engineering an option adopted through hands on interaction with computing tools.

It combines a study by analytical approach, the boundary elements methods (BIEM) through a fundamental problem solving on planar faults such as dynamic rapture on bi-material faults or episodic slow-slip and non-volcanic tremor.

Spectrum element method is used to solve earthquake dynamics and seismic wave with propagation. These study involve large computation that are performed on a “Beowulf” PC cluster.

A group of techies led by Cochran and colleagues Jesse Lawrence all of Stanford University are developing a new software linking the public with laptops to monitor earthquakes with possibility of sending warning signals within 10-20 seconds to other regions. This can somehow allow people to prepare and reduce fatalities.

This earthquake warning software dubbed “Quick-Cache Network” uses inexpensive motion sensors-accelerometers-already in place as safety devices in most new laptops. The technology has first been incorporated by Apple Inc. only. It is configured specially to shield the keyboard punches and sound from speakers without necessarily affecting motion sensing ability of seismic waves. It is hoped that this software will be open sourced therefore revolutionalizing the way we perceive tremors and earthquakes, often with awe. This undoubtedly ground breaking innovation of the 21c will at a later date leave a lasting imprint in halls of information technology as more of these technologies evolve into mobile phones, thereby enabling warning systems just to our hands.

Therefore, the meeting of the techies in New York came at a good time though disguised in the apocalypse that nightmarishly snuffed life out in the heart of the Caribbean country. Could the software have been useful and handy that day, when a 6.0 magnitude of aftershock again spread fever in Port-au-Prince?

Today looking into the future, technology will be critical in solving our perennial catastrophes. The emphasis however demands on their reliability and whether information regarding an impending earthquake can be accessible to many and in a form that is swift and immediate.

Earthquakes have previously led to massive Tsunami along major coastal sea boards hampering commercial activity as much as infrastructure. Technology will therefore be critical in this endeavor to dealing with nature.
